In 2009 two wonderful women started the Nashville Baby Wearers Chapter! Originally a yahoo group was the way we shared meeting times and locations. Around the middle of 2010, Liz, Alanna, and Melissa became the fearless leaders we love today. In July 2010, with interest growing, they started a facebook group, and it became the easiest way to stay connected. Eventually, Rebecca, Leigh Anne, and Nicole joined as leaders prior to the BWI changeover (Becoming a chapter of BWI, Inc with 501c3 status).
Become a chapter of BWI opened possibilities for free meeting space at community centers, and now, most of our Nashville meetings are at McCabe Park Community Center (of course always check meeting notices for venue changes). In early 2013 the we added a monthly meeting in Murfreesboro! The space is generously provided by Amanda Lowery-Sullivan and her family's business, Revolution Chiropractic.
We became a chapter of Babywearing International, Inc. in the summer of 2013. As part of the process, Liz, Alanna, Rebecca, and Melissa became volunteer babywearing educators through BWI's process of written application and skills testing. Some of the benefits of being a BWI chapter: we have seen immediate benefits for nonprofit status in booking meeting space and BWI-organized vendor donations of carriers!
We encourage membership to support both the overall mission and organization of BWI Inc as well as our local chapter (especially the lending library!) To purchase your membership you can go here for more info.
